Millennia ago, gods walked the Earth and controlled the elements at a whim. As a gift for his father Poseidon, the wind god Aeolus crafted The Sea’s Harp, an Aeolian harp that would produce the most beautiful, wondrous sounds when Aeolus blew the wind across its strings. So besotted with his gift was Poseidon, he gave the islands in the area now known as the Aeolian Sea to his son. As the years went by, Poseidon became more and more disillusioned with the world of man and wrought terrible vengeance upon seafarers and island dwellers alike. During these terrible fits of destructive rage, the only thing that could sooth Poseidon’s temper was the Sea’s Harp, such was its power.

In time, people neglected the old gods; they no longer observed the old traditions or performed ancient rites. Without so much as libations offered in their honour, the old gods faded into obscurity, however, many powerful instruments of the gods remained within the grasp of humankind.
